Lonesome Lake 2015
Continuing in the tradition of our annual Thanksgiving Weekend White Mountain backpacking trips, this year we head back to the Lonesome Lake Hut. This will mark the troop's fifth visit to this AMC, each time proving to be a most enjoyable experience.
Lonesome Lake Hut sits at 2756' elevation, 1.6 miles from the trail head. From there, we'll have access to multiple challenging hikes, including Cannon Mountain (4080'), North and South Kinsman Mountains (4293' and 4358' respectively), and the series of "Cannon Balls" (3769', 3693' and 3660') that sit between these. We'll decide our specific path based on the experience and desires of the final crew that attends, but no matter which mountain(s) we summit we are sure to have fun.
Our plan is to leave Friday morning, arriving at the trail head a little after noon and then hiking to the hut. Saturday will be a mountain hike. Sunday morning we'll hike down from the hut and return home.
Note that this trip may be challenging. We typically see ice and snow (requiring micro-spikes for safe hiking), and though we sleep indoors, the sleeping quarters are not heated or insulated and we can easily see temperatures as low as the single digits. Talk to Mr. LaRowe if you have any questions.
