August 2019

Aug 11-18 was quite a busy week for Troop 99 of Franklin, MA. The younger boys stayed for a week at Camp Yawgoog in Rhode Island while the older boys went to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

After arriving at our campsite, Sleepy Hollow in Three Point, we brought in our totes with all of our personal belongings for the week and had pizza with our families before saying goodbye.

Every day we kept our tents neat and put the flaps up. We also swept to keep tents clean and orderly. Last year at camp it rained a lot but this year, it only rained two times.

When we first arrived at camp, we set up a big awning so we could hang out, work on ranks and play games. You can see in the picture below what the platform tents look like with the flaps down.

At the beginning of camp, we took our swimming tests at the Three-Point Waterfront. We also played Water Dodge Ball, swam, went canoeing, and kayaking.

As a group, we earned or worked on several Merit Badges including but not limited to Archery, Lifesaving, Cooking, Camping, Woodcarving, Orienteering, etc. Many boys also worked on advancing in the Scout Ranks such as Joey who made a cool clothes hanger.

We wore our uniforms and ate at the Three-Point Dining Hall as a troop and its one of my favorite parts of camp because the camp leaders are funny doing skits and chanting.

We had many visitors at camp including various troop leaders and a snake! At the end of camp, we had our Court of Honor Ceremony and boys who earned badges and ranks were recognized.
